New Jersey State Police - The New Jersey State Police is the state police force for the state of New Jersey. As with the New York State Police, the primary reason for the creation of the New Jersey State Police was for the protection of rural areas that had never had law enforcement, beyond a local sheriff, who was often not able to provide suitable police services.
New Jersey Meadowlands Commission - The New Jersey Meadowlands Commission (originally the Hackensack Meadowlands Development Commission) was created by an act of the New Jersey Legislature in 1968 and was passed into law in January 1969. The Commission was created to oversee development in the New Jersey Meadowlands and to ensure that the newly appreciated wetlands, and their flora and fauna, would be able to survive as a thriving ecological network after decades of industrial abuse and neglect.
City of Philadelphia v. New Jersey - In this 1978 case, the Supreme Court invalidated a 1973 New Jersey law that prohibited most "solid or liquid waste which originated or was collected outside the territorial limits of this state" from being imported across its borders. Challenging the ban were Philadelphia, as well as private landfill operators in New Jersey and several cities outside the Garden State.
